Meet the maker: Rebecca Davies Jewellery

Meet the maker: Rebecca Davies Jewellery

We’re so excited to introduce one of our amazing members from our Welsh Makers Community in this Meet the Maker series. Meet Bec, the maker behind Rebecca Davies Jewellery.

At Byw, we love sharing the stories behind the Welsh gifts and locally made products you’ll find on our site. By shopping small and supporting Welsh makers like Rhiannon, you’re helping them keep doing what they love and we couldn’t be happier about it!

We caught up with Bec to hear all about their journey and what inspires their work.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your journey so far?

I'm Bec, originally from Mid Wales and now live in the South Wales Valleys with my husband and son. My journey has taken me through many different jobs over the years, but making jewellery has become the one that stuck, and such a fun creative outlet for me, allowing me to turn my ideas into pieces that can be treasured and worn every day.

What inspired you to start creating your jewellery?

I’ve always loved making things, from sewing and knitting to ceramics and printing! So when my husband and I decided to get married, of course I wanted to DIY our wedding! I was really keen to make our rings. I’d never tried silversmithing, so I signed up to an evening class in a local college. That was in 2017 – our rings were one of the first things I made, but I enjoyed working with metal so much and fell in love with silversmithing, so over the next 4 years I kept going back for more classes!

What part of running the business brings you the most joy?

I can’t decide between making jewellery and connecting with people—they’re both my favourite parts of the business. My workshop is my happy place. I completely lose track of time in there; I’ll pop in for an hour and suddenly realise six hours have passed! At the same time, I love hearing people's stories. It's so lovely when someone shares the reason behind a purchase or commission. Whether it’s a gift, a way to mark a special milestone, or a piece that holds personal meaning, I feel so honoured to create jewellery that becomes part of someone’s story.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I wouldn’t say I have a typical day, and that flexibility is one of the things I love most about being my own boss. Sometimes I’m busy making, sometimes I’m out teaching workshops or selling at markets, other days it’s admin or planning.

What does it mean to you when someone chooses to buy something you’ve made?

I’m always so happy – especially as jewellery is so personal. It’s never just a sale, someone has connected with something I’ve made by hand and chosen to make it part of their story, whether it’s for themselves or as a gift.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?

I love going for walks, listening to music and trying new arts and crafts. I really love workshops and have tried everything from welding and blacksmithing to stained glass and paper flowers!

Why is supporting small, independent businesses important to you?

Independent businesses have so much soul, I just love them! Supporting independents means supporting real people, passion, and creativity. Every order makes a genuine difference and helps keep handmade craftsmanship alive.
